Winners of our first ever photo competition!

June 2009

Here are the winning three entries in our first whippersnapper competition - celebrating kiwi kids and their adventures.  Many thanks to everyone who entered and to our judge Rory Thomson.  You can check out Rory's photograhy business at www.rorythomsonphotography.co.nz/

Beside each photo we have added in a brief description of the image as well as Rory's comments as the expert on these things!

	1st - Photo Description Taken on Jan 12 2009 at the Whangamata wharf.  The kids had a great time catching these wee "sardines", and then we had much excitement when Eva caught a stingray which headed out into the middle of the river, hook, line & sinker never to be seen again! Judge's comments I possibly got stuck on the summer theme as we are battling thru another cold snap but this image would have won regardless. The orange of the life jacket and hints of blue sky gave the image its base, the warm sea breeze blowing her hair across her face which has a nice wee tilt to one side and the fish held up prominently and proudly rounds off a well framed image. Other fish photos had me not seeing the fish until second or third look.   But what really makes this image is the enjoyment on the girls face and captured with such good framing.
	2nd - Photo Description Christmas Holidays 2008. Tom with his dad Gordon hanging out at beach. Judge's comments               The colour in this photograph is great. The reds, blues and yellows of the clothing gives it great vibrancy against the blue of the sky and water. You can just about see the enjoyment on both faces and its what summer is all about, Dad playing with his son.
	3rd - Photo Description According to my mum (that's me and my dad Trevor in the photo) it was up at  the Coromandel sometime in 1976, summer I'm guessing and I was about 3 1/2...Good times! Judge's comments I loved this photo and it absolutely fitted the competition description of “classic photo of kids and their adventures” Everything is classic, Dads hat and shorts, little girl’s clothes, caravan and even that classic pose with fish. In today’s age of happy snappy cameras, some fill in flash to show the expressions is what is missing, but then it would lose its classic look.

We are creating a library of photos to celebrate the great outdoor tradition of Kiwi kids and so we would love to hear from you!

E-mail us with your classic photos (new or old) of kiwi kids and their adventures and be in to win a $100 voucher or a FREE striped long sleeve top! 

There are 3 $100 whippersnapper vouchers (for entries WITHOUT an online order) and 50 striped long sleeve tops (for entries WITH an online order) to be won.

If entering the photo competition without making an online order

Once you have submitted your image(s) your name will go into the draw to win one of the 3 $100 whippersnapper vouchers

If entering and making an online order

Please e-mail us your image(s) on the same day that you put in your order or within 24 hours of doing so.  When you e-mail us the image please also indicate what size striped long sleeve top you would like (they come in ages 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) and we will include that garment in your order free of charge.  The first 50 images submitted will receive this free garment after which this part of the promotion will end.

Other Terms & Conditions

You will retain copyright in any image that you send to us but you give full permission for whippersnapper to use your image on its website and for any other promotional and/or print publication use.

Submissions can only be in digital form, but scanned slides or photographs are permitted. Images must be supplied in Jpeg format.  The minimum image size is 500 kb.

Submissions must include the submitter’s full name, a title and a short description relating to the image including the place and year where the photo was taken and any other details that you think would be useful.

The maximum number of images entered per person per month is 1 - but feel free to submit more of your images to our general photo gallery as well by e-mailing them to us at snaps@whippersnapper.co.nz

This photo competition runs from Monday 2 March 2009 to Friday 12 June 2009.  Winners will be notified by e-mail on Monday 15 June 2009.

Entry into this competition implies full acceptance of all terms and conditions.
